Why Do We Feed Birds
What is it about wild birds that fascinates so many of us? They are living, breathing creatures that survive against tremendous odds. They manage to find food, survive bad weather, evade predators plus they fly hundreds of miles and return to us. Some have beautiful songs. Some have beautiful feathers. Almost all can soar above the earth in apparently effortless flight.
They are the easiest way for all people to experience living animals. Everyone can enjoy birds. Bird watching and bird feeding cross all barriers. Birds can be enjoyed by people of all types, regardless of income, religion, race, sex, physical condition, age, intelligence or social status.
Birds can lower our blood pressure, calm our nerves, make us feel happy. They help us to pass the time. But we are their greatest enemy. They survive against tremendous odds but by destroying habitat, polluting and using toxins, we are contributing to their decline.
